8 Facts About Nicotine & Nicotine Addiction

Today is “World No Tobacco Day” 

-Nicotine has one of the highest addiction rates of any drug.

  1. Nicotine is a poison. Its original use was as an insecticide.
  2. Nicotine causes a more significant and more prolonged than regular dopamine release in the brain. This extensive release of dopamine is what causes the addiction.
  3. 2 out of 3 people who smoke say they want to quit and cannot
  4. Inhaled smoke delivers nicotine to the brain within 20 seconds.
  5. Nicotine is thought to be as addictive as heroin.
  6. Nicotine can cause cancers, lung problems, circulatory and heart problems, diabetes, eye problems, tooth and gum disease, infertility, and pregnancy complications.
  7. 90% of those with a nicotine addiction started by the age of 18
  8. Smokers acquire physical, psychological, and behavioral addiction. When quitting, it is essential to address all three to see success.
